In 1845 Onorata Comitti, an Italian instrument maker, travelled to England and in 1850 he opened his workshops in Clerkenwell London. Dedicated to innovation and the pursuit of perfection he quickly achieved a reputation for making the finest quality mercury and aneroid barometers. It was during the late Victorian period that the company diversified into making fine timepieces receiving a Diploma of Honour for outstanding workmanship in 1888.
